WSL One Ocean | Logo Design

WSL One Ocean is an initiative of the World Surf League (WSL) and its non-profit partner, WSL PURE. 

Through campaigns, grants, programming and education, WSL One Ocean engages fans throughout the world and hosts event-based activations focused on coastal restoration and conservation, eliminating plastic use and encouraging climate action.

Having also created the identity and website for the first two phases of the initiative, We Are One Ocean, it was exciting to have the opportunity to create an updated logo that would feel aligned with the League's evolved branding and communicate the initiative’s core mission.

Objectives for the new logo:

  • Feel approachable and appropriate for both fan and NGO audiences

  • Communicate the initiative’s commitment to ocean health

  • Work seamlessly within a range of applications

To meet these objectives, I began with a soft serif typeface and reworked the letterforms to include a gentle, discernible wave. The combination helps balance approachability with professionalism, and visually communicates the initiative’s focus on ocean health in a memorable way.
